Spoonful of Superfoods

Add one spoonful of [INSERT SUPERFOOD HERE] to water, stir well, and enjoy ... Just kidding! We all know that superfoods aren't the tastiest, but when you take them regularly they sure make you feel pretty super. For the past few months the two of us have been regularly taking spirulina, chlorella, and wheatgrass (we just got açai in the mail a few days ago, which has been amazing).

What's all the hype about anyway?

Recently superfood have been getting a lot of attention because of their high dosages of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes, and phytonutrients.

Wheatgrass is known to be a powerful detoxifier. It cleanses the body from heavy metals, pollutants and other toxins that may be stored in the body’s tissues and organs.

Spirulina is 65% protein and amino acids, contains Omega 3-,6 and 9s, and has an ORAC value (used to measure antioxidant ability) of over 24,000 (4 times the amount of blueberries).

Açai extremely high in anthocyanins which is associated with the ability to lower cholesterol levels, high in fiber, and an ORAC value of 102,700 which is even higher than Spirulina ... a lot higher.

But that's enough facts for today. If you want to find out more about the benefits of superpowders www.google.com is your best friend. On to the important stuff ... How do you make this stuff taste good?

How to make them go from Yucky to Yum

Usually for convenience purposes we just suck it up and drink it with water but sometimes we throw them in smoothies or juices (which is amazing) ...... and sometimes we get carried away and make Superfood Parfaits. Here's how we made this one.

Ingredients
1/2 cup of chia seeds
1 1/2 cup of canned coconut milk
1/2 cup of filtered water
Coconut sugar to taste
Spirulina powder (we used Organic Burst)
Açaí powder (we used Organic Burst)
Wheat grass powder (we used Organic Burst)
Beet juice

Directions
1. Combine first 4 ingredients into a large bowl and stir well. Cover and set in fridge for 4 hours.
2. Once time is up remove from fridge. Divide chia pudding into four different sections in small bowls.
3. Combine one small bowl of chia pudding with one superfood powder or beet juice. Stir well until well combined.
4. In glassware of choice layer chia pudding. Top with green grapes and blueberries and enjoy.
